Pa. Soldier Faces Sentence For Gun Smuggling - cbs3.com

Pa. Soldier Faces Sentence For Gun Smuggling - cbs3.com: "An Army National Guard soldier from northwestern Pennsylvania has pleaded guilty to lying about the contents of a crate in which he smuggled 11 guns into the country from Iraq.

Forty-two-year-old James Bindeman pleaded guilty before a federal judge in Erie on Monday to one count of entry of good by means of false statements. He faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he's sentenced Oct. 22.

Federal prosecutors say Bindeman built a crate with a false bottom and hid the guns beneath it when returning from duty in Iraq.

Bindeman told Army officials the crate contained power tools and golf clubs, but the guns were discovered when the crate was unpacked in March at a Guard readiness center in Cambridge Springs.

Bindeman's attorney declined comment."
