ALIPAC - Five Federal Lands in Arizona Have Travel Warnings in Place

ALIPAC - Five Federal Lands in Arizona Have Travel Warnings in Place: "Estimates of exactly how many acres of federal land are closed due to safety concerns near the border were not immediately available, but at least one lawmaker told FoxNews.com that the policy of 'ceding' federal land to drug and human trafficking is unacceptable.

'This is one of those things that the Department of Interior does not want to publicize,' said Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, ranking Republican on the House Parks and Public Lands Subcommittee. 'These bad actors are now being channeled into federal lands along the border because it's so easy to make that access. The situation is getting worse on federal lands and will only get worse until we make some proactive activity to change the status quo.'

'Frankly,' Bishop continued, 'the status quo is failing. We are failing to control our borders.'

Bishop, who has introduced legislation that would remove environmental restrictions the Department of Interior imposes on U.S. Border Patrol agents, questioned the message sent by federal authorities by closing off part of the Buenos Aires Refuge.

'That is a ludicrous message,' he said. 'That policy in unacceptable. That strikes of running a policy of appeasement to drug cartels instead of fighting back. Someone has to say that not one inch of American property will be given to the bad guys and not one death is acceptable.'"

FOXNews.com - Mexican Gangs Maintain Permanent Lookout Bases in Hills of Arizona

FOXNews.com - Mexican Gangs Maintain Permanent Lookout Bases in Hills of Arizona: "Mexican drug cartels have set up shop on American soil, maintaining lookout bases in strategic locations in the hills of southern Arizona from which their scouts can monitor every move made by law enforcement officials, federal agents tell Fox News.
The scouts are supplied by drivers who bring them food, water, batteries for radios -- all the items they need to stay in the wilderness for a long time.
“To say that this area is out of control is an understatement,' said an agent who patrols the area and asked not to be named. 'We (federal border agents), as well as the Pima County Sheriff Office and the Bureau of Land Management, can attest to that.”
Much of the drug traffic originates in the Menagers Dam area, the Vekol Valley, Stanfield and around the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation. It even follows a natural gas pipeline that runs from Mexico into Arizona."

Heroin production in Afghanistan has grown by 40 times says Russian drugs tsar - Telegraph: "Viktor Ivanov, head of Russia's Federal Service for Narcotics Control, has for the last two years been fighting the traffic of Afghan heroin into Russia. He spoke to Newsweek's correspondent about his efforts to persuade Nato to eradicate Afghanistan's poppy fields

Stopping Afghanistan's drug industry Not so long ago you met Nato in Brussels to discuss the issues with drug traffic from Afghanistan. What was your impression? Is Nato ready to take real steps in fighting heroine production and trade?
Nato is a military organisation, not a political one. They should be using their resources to destroy the plants containing narcotics. In Afghanistan, I spoke to the head of the Nato military council. He put it straight, as a military person – “as soon as the decision is made, we will start destroying the poppy fields”. Precise, short and clear"

Pa. Soldier Faces Sentence For Gun Smuggling - cbs3.com: "An Army National Guard soldier from northwestern Pennsylvania has pleaded guilty to lying about the contents of a crate in which he smuggled 11 guns into the country from Iraq.

Forty-two-year-old James Bindeman pleaded guilty before a federal judge in Erie on Monday to one count of entry of good by means of false statements. He faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he's sentenced Oct. 22.

Federal prosecutors say Bindeman built a crate with a false bottom and hid the guns beneath it when returning from duty in Iraq.
